Thursday- as it happens

Eight players including Hungarian Katalin Marosi and Greta Arn play today for the remaining four quarter final places.


Grönefeld, Cornet, Sprem and Klepac are now among the best 8 players of the Gaz de France Grand Prix and by the end of the afternoon four other players will join them. On the center court the program starts with 7th seed Klara Zakopalova vs Mathilde Johansson followed by Katalin Marosi against 3rd seed Tsvetana Pironkova.

The Czech and the French player played only once before today's mach, last year in Indian Wells Zakopalova won in three sets.

Hungarian wild card player, Katalin Marosi's last WTA event was in october 2004 but she proved that she deserves the possibility to play on the Main Draw by defetaing her Russian oponent in the first round. If she wins against the Bulgarian player she returns to a WTA QF after the tournament in Bogota in 2003.

They wil be folowed by another Hungarian, Greta Arn against Slovakian qualifier, Zuzana Kucova who ousted Timea Bacsinszky in the first round.

Last match on the center court is a doubles QF match between 3rd seed Cornet/Husarova vs Evtimova/Kochanova.

On court6 2002 tournament winner Martina Müller plays against left handed Czech Petra Kvitova who defeated 8th seed and last year's finalist Sorana Cirstea in the first round and they will be followed by another doubles QF match between the Obziler/Szatmari and the Klepac/Stewart duos.

12.34. Johansson is strugling, Zakopalova won the first set 6-0 in 22 minutes.

12.49 Kvitova is heading for her first WTA quarterfinal of the year, won the first set by 62, while Johansson won her first game of the match (4-1).

13.04 Zakopalova advances into her fourth QF of the year with an easy 60 61 victory and the program is modified a bit. As the first match of the center court was only 47 mins long, a doubles match will be played before the originally scheduled singles match. On court 6 Kvitova leads 4-1 in the second set.

13.19 Kvitova won 62 61 and got into the quarter final.

14.38 On center court Klepac and Stewart are serving for the match against Satmari and Obziler at 64 54.

14.41 Klepac and Stewart advanced into the semis vith a 64 64 victory over Szatmari and Obziler. The next match is Katalin Marosi against 3rd seed Tsvetana Pironkova for the quarter final.

15.08 Katalin Marosi has begun her match for the QF place against Pironkova who won the toss and chose to serve but lost it and the Hungarian wild card player leads 1-0.
