Main Draw action continues- as it happens

Today’s program at the Gaz de France Grand Prix starts at 11 am if the weather agrees as there was a huge storm over Budapest at night and bad weather is said to last for some days but hopefully it won’t.


The No1, 2 and 3 seeds will not play today as Agi Szavay’s and Alize Cornet’s debut is scheduled for tomorrow and 3rd seed Tsvetana Pironkova played yeasterday and got into the 2nd round. 4th seed Czech Benesova tries to repeat her victory over Hungarian Greta Arn after this year’s Roland Garros, while 6th seed French Parmentier starts the program of Court4 against Karolina Sprem from Croatia. They have never played against each other before unlike 7th seed Zakopalova and French Cohen-Aloro. It will be the 5th time that they meet but Zakopalova proved to be better at all the four previous occasions.

Last year’s finalist, 8th seed Romanian Sorana Cirstea plays the 3rd match at Center Court against Petra Kvitova but the day at the stadium starts at 12.00 with Hungarian wild card player Katalin Marosi who faces the only Russian of the Main Draw, Anna Lapushchnekova.

Did you know that though last year Sorana Cirstea reached the final from the qualifying, the finest effort is not hers but Myriam Casanova's (SUI), who was finalist in 2002 as a qualifying wild card player?

11.20 Only 40 minutes till Katalin Marosi starts her match on the center court while Klepac leads 3-1 against Zoric and there's no break on the other two matches.

11.40 Klepac ans Rybarikova won the first set by 64 and 62, while Sprem could break Parmentier's serve but couldn't hold her advanatage.

12.00 At 6-5 Sprem broke her opponent's serve and won the first set by 75, while Klepac is close to victory.

12.04 Kati Marosi ans Anna Lapushchenkova are on teh Center court.

12.13 Klepac and Rybarikova won, and they will be put to a hard test in the second round as the Slovenian meets Agi Szavay, and the Slovakian faces Alize Cornet.

12.35 Sprem defeated the 6th seed Parmentier and prepares for the battle against Obziler in the second round; the wind is getting bigger, rain clouds are coming, Marosi leads 4-2 on the center court.

Did you know that only once in the tournament's history could all the 8 seeds advance into the 2nd round? It was in 1996...

12.53 Marosi won the first set by 63 but Lapushchenkova broke her serve in the beginning of the second set. Timea Bacsinszky is 2-0 down against qualifyer Kucova, while Zakopalova is playing against Cohan Aloro and Martina Müller plays against another qualifier Veronika Chvojkova.

Did you know that in 2002 Martina Müller won the WTA tournament in Budapest as an unseeded player?

13.17 The first Hungarian victory on the Main Draw is born, Marosi defeated Lapuchchenkova by 63 61 and will face 3rd seed Pironkova in the second round.

13.24 Kucova won the first set against Bacsinszky by 63 just like Chvojkova against Müller.

13.58 7th seed Klara Zakopalova leeds 63 42.

Zuzana Kucova

14.01 World No 173 Zuzana Zakopalova overcame No59 Timea Bacsinszky with a 63 64 victory and got into the second round.

14.08 Zakopalova won 63 62, and the program of the center court is about to continue with the match between Hungarian Greta Arn and 4th seeded Lucie Safarova. The winner plays against Kucova in the second round.

14.49 Greta made a break and leads 3-1 in the first set while Martina Müller advanced into the 2nd round with a 36 64 61 victory over Chvojkova.

15.18 Though Greta led by 5-1, Benesova came back but couldn't avoid losing the set by 64. On Court No5 Hradecka won the first set 64.

15.26 Greta dominates the game, breaks Benesova's serve and leads 1-0 in the second set. Clouds don't look good...

15.42 On court No4 the duo of Obziler and Szatmari scored a 61 62 victory over Jans and Dzehalevic, the result on the center court is 3-2 when Greta is to serve.

15.48 Benesova broke Greta's serve...3-3

15.58 The result is 4-4 after both players lost their serves, while Johansson and Hradecka play the third set.

16.00 Another break from Greta who is now serving for the match.

16.04 Though Benesova had three break-opprotunities, Greta came back and won the match which gets her into the second round of the tournament first time in her career. Her opponent in the second round will be Zuzana Kucova from Slovakia.

16.44 Cirstea and Kvitova are 2-2 in the second set, Johansson came bach from a 4-2 deficit, but Hradecka leads 6-5 in the third set when the french player is serving.

17.01 Kvitova won the first set by 62 and leads in the second as well. 2-0.

17.18 Mathilde Johannson survived the test against Lucie Kucova and won by 46 64 76(5), while Sorana Cirstea called for medical treatment.

17.37 After the short break Cirstea played better but Kvitova still has the advantage and leads by 5-3 in the second set.

17.42 Kvitova defetaed Cirstea and advanced into the second round where she faces Martina Müller.

All singles Main Draw matches are finished from the second round, we have some doubles to go if weather holds out.
