Qualifying finals and Main Draw 1st round- as it happens

Ten matches will be played today at the Gaz de France Grand Prix, including four qualifying finals, four 1st round matches from the Main Draw followed by two doubles matches.

On center court former world No 35 Bulgarian Sesil Karatantcheva is fighting for a Main Draw spot against Sebian Natasa Zoric. Besides the two 19 year old players Bulgarian Dia Evtimova's opponent today is the Slovakian Kucova, while the Jans-Chvojkova and the Hradecka-Wienerova match will also be played for a place in the Main Draw.

Afterwards come the Main Draw players. On center court one of the most experienced players, Hungarian Kyra Nagy is playing against 5th seed Lucie Safarova. It's the first time for the 21 year old left handed Czech to play in the capital of Hungary while Kyra has been here seven times before. Third match of the center court will see Hungarian teenager Palma Kiraly playing against former world No14 Anne-Lena Grönefeld. The German winner of the junior Roland Garros in 2003 earned her place on the Main Draw by winning the $75.000 event in Zlin.

3rd seeded Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova plays on Court4 against the 20 year old wild card player Teodora Mircic and they will be followed by a doubles match.

The most experienced player of the Main Draw, Israelian Tsipora Obziler starts her 3rd WTA tournament in Budapest against the Runner Up of the junior Roland Garros in 2005, Ioana Raluca Olaru. Their match will be followed by the Cornet/Husarova-Kachlikova/Kucova doubles match.

8.45 Though hevay rains were falling during the night, right now it's not raining and the waether is good enough to practice.

9.20 Players are practicing hard, including Hungarian Agi Szavay, the 1st seeded player of the Main Draw.

10.10 17 year old Palma Kiraly has started her practice on center court where she will play the 3rd match of the day.

Did you know that if Evtimova and Karatancheva win their matches and get into the Main Draw, then 3 Bulgarian players will be in the Main Draw which has never occured before?

11.44 Linesmen and ballboys/girls have arrived, spectators also all we miss are the players, Karatantcheva and Zoric who are starting today's program.

11.55 Both players arrived to Center Court, the coin has been tossed.

12.30 result on Center Court is 3-3 while Jans won the first set agains Chvojkova, and Kucova leads 3-1 agains Evtimova.

12.40 Zoric won the first set 6-3. The Serbian is a very technical player with a sure baseline play.

12.50 Zoric still dominates the match, the result is 3-0 for the Serbian in the second set.

13.09 Zoric leads 5-2 in the second set and serves for the match but Karatantcheva made a break, the result is 5-3.

13.14 Zoric upset Karatantcheva with a 63 63 victory and she's in the Main Draw now.

13.29. Kyra Nagy and Lucie Safarova are now on the Center court preparing for the first Main Draw match of the tournament. The other qualifying finals are still in progress.

14.09 5th seeded Safarova won the first set against Nagy by 62

14.14 Only one qualiying final is in progress now, as Chvojkova defeated Jans by 16 62 63 and Hradecka won against Wienerova 63 64.

14.36 Obziler leads 5-1 in the first set against Olaru, Safarova won by 62 62, and the last qualifying final is also over, Kucova beat Evtimova 64 16 64

14.59 Obziler leads 63 20 against Olaru and the qualifyers have been put into the Main Draw as follows: Zoric-Klepac, Chvojkova-Müller, Hradecka-Johansson and Kucova-Bacsinszky

Did you know that it has never occured in the tournament's history that all the qualifyers got into the second round af the Main Draw?

15.34 World No117 Tzipora Obziler defeated Olaru by 63 62 and reached the second round where she will face 6th seeded Parmentier or Karilona Sprem. With this Obziler equals her best result in Budapst from 2002 when she reached the best 16 from the qualifying.

15.55 Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova had an easy 63 61 win over wild card player Teodora Mircic.

16.15 On the last singles match of the day Anna-Lena Grönefeld leads 2-0 against Hungarian teenager Palma Kiraly and the two doubles matches have also started incuding Alize Cornet's.

16.29 Grönefeld won the first set 60 against the 17 year old Hungarian.

16.54 The second set is a bit more interesting, Palma took the lead by 4-3 and Grönefeld is getting nervous.

17.03 Grönefeld won three games in a row and secured her place in the 2nd round where she will face 5th seeded Lucie Safarova.
