| Ági defends titile in Budapest |
![]() After Anna Smashnova, Ági Szávay became the second player of GDF SUEZ Grand Prix's history to defend her title. Her opponent in the final was the same as last year, Patty Schnyder of Switzerland who tried her best but couldn't prevent Ági's straight set victory. It was very hot In the full packed center court but the players did a great job, they performed a quality tennis and finally home crowd was satisfied as Ági captured her fourt Tour title after Palermo (2007), Beijing (2007) and Budapest last year. "I played a very long match yesterday so today's hot was not so good for me. I tried to finish the match as soon as I can and I really enjoyed the crowd's help. The first set was very tight, Patty played very well so I asked for my coach's help and it worked. It's quite difficult to play against Patty as she's a lefty and she uses a lot of spin which is hard to handle and moves her opponents very much. Next year I'd like to defend my title again but now I'm concentrating on getting to Prague. I've been in a good form for a long time so I was really expecting this victory. I hope I can save this form to Prague and to Montreal as well. The last time the same two players featured in the final of an event in back-to-back years was at Wimbledon in 2008 and 2009 (the Williams sisters - Venus won in 2008 and Serena won in 2009). The last time it happened at a non-Grand Slam event in back-to-back years was at Antwerp in 2006 and 2007 (Amélie Mauresmo and Kim Clijsters - Mauresmo won both years). - sonyericssonwtatour.com |
